Is there any doubt that America’s Constitution is under attack? For decades, the power and intent of the Constitution have been whittled away by liberals and others who do not value the foundation of this country. For that reason, we must send constitutional conservatives to Washington. This is not the time to send people who do not have the experience defending the constitution. It is not the time to send a person who needs to use this as a learning experience for the first couple of years.
Ted Cruz, does not just talk the talk. He has exhibited a willingness to defend the constitution and liberty for all Americans on multiple occasions. He is the freedom fighter we must send to Washington. I’ve listed my reasons below, why my vote will be cast for Ted Cruz.
1. Defended US Sovereignty
Successfully represented Texas before the U.S. Supreme Court in Medellin v. Texas, which upheld U.S. sovereignty and held that the World Court cannot bind the United States justice system and the President cannot order the state courts to obey the World Court.
2. He has defended our second amendment right to bear arms
Ted authored a brief on behalf of 31 states supporting the second amendment right to keep and bear arms. The ban on firearms was struck down in a 5-4 landmark decision before the U.S. Supreme Court?
3. Ted Cruz fought to defend our religious freedom.
Successfully defended the constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument, winning in a 5-4 landmark decision before the U.S. Supreme Court, setting an important national precedent for the right to display similar monuments.
4. The Tenth Amendment is one of the keys to preserving the balance and vision for our countr
y by the founding fathers. For years, Ted has defended this key amendment.
Tenth Amendment language: The Tenth Amendment states the Constitution’s principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the federal government nor prohibited to the states by the Constitution are reserved to the States or the people.
Ted Cruz has consistently championed the 10th amendment, speaking and writing nationally on the virtues of federalism and why excessive regulation and federal government intrusion threaten to destroy America’s free-market economy and the American Dream.
5. Ted opposed the TSA groping at airports
This is an invasion of privacy, that Mr. Cruz’s opponent was afraid to tackle. Cruz said that we should look to Israel and follow their example. “Instead of looking for terrorists, we’re looking for weapons. It’s an ill-advised approach that hurts citizens.”
6. He was unafraid and stood up to protect our efforts for energy independence in America, at a time when the administration was fiercely undermining America’s efforts.
Authored an amicus brief on behalf of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and a diverse coalition of 29 Gulf Coast chambers of commerce and industry groups in Hornbeck Offshore Services v. Salazar, in opposition to the Obama Interior Department’s moratorium on offshore exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. One week later, the Fifth Circuit agreed, and ruled against the moratorium.
7. Reinforced the words: “All men are created equal” as written in the Declaration of Independence. There is no place for hate or bigotry in America.
Ted authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of 10 states in Rahn v. Robb, urging the Supreme Court to grant certiorari and reverse a decision of the Eight Circuit allowing the Ku Klux Klan to participate in Kansas’s “Adopt-A-Highway” program.
8. Ted Cruz signed the Contract from America.
The Contract from America, clause 4. Enact Fundamental Tax Reform: Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words–the length of the original Constitution.
9. Mr. Cruz took a definite stand on Border Security.
He has worked on efforts to increase penalties for felons who enter the country illegally. Ted authored a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of 10 states in Lopez v. Gonzales, urging the strictest enforcement of laws punishing those with prior felony convictions who entered the country illegally.
Having met and spoken with Mr. Cruz on multiple occasions, prior to his campaign, I can assure you of one thing. No one is more passionate or driven to defend America’s constitution. There are many more illustrations of his commitment and efforts on behalf of our constitution and liberty. In fact, there were too many for one article.
What can you do to help?
If you are in Texas: I urge each of you to vote. Early voting begins July 23. Election Day is on July 31.
If you are in other states: Fight to take back the Senate. Go to www.tedcruz.org and help to call and get out the vote!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 1 so far )
Some fantastic news was announced yesterday by the Texas Public Policy Foundation! Several conservative organizations have banded together to launch a broadcast campaign reaching out to Texans on important fiscal matters. We all appreciate our way of life here in Texas, and need to take a moment to listen to these messages. They are short and to the point. Fiscal responsibility matters in our state. Let’s keep our state strong, and independent. To continue, we must be willing to make the tough decisions now on the budget.
The founding members of Texans for a Conservative Budget include the Texas Public Policy Foundation, Americans for Prosperity-Texas, Americans for Tax Reform, Empower Texans, Heartland Institute, Liberty Institute, and the National Federation for Independent Business-Texas.
Tonight in the Austin area, the first television commercial will air during one of my favorite conservative shows – NCIS. I am including the links to the three commercials, which can be circulated to others. It is timely and critical that we bring pressure to bear on the Texas State Senate. The House budget was done with a great deal of thought as to how the tough decisions today, would ensure our security in future. As stated in my earlier article, the Texas Senate will add 12 Billion in spending.
Call/write/fax/visit your senators! Tell them we do not have the money to spend! Remind them of the coming Medicaid debt and other unfunded liabilities.
Here are the links for all of you to forward to friends and family:
Texans for a Conservative Budget – First spot
Texans for a Conservative Budget – Second spot
Texans for a Conservative Budget – third spot
A big thank you goes out to these conservative organizations that continue to bless Texas with their hardwork!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 1 so far )
The Bay Area Republican Club sponsored an event recently, that stood out as a most exceptional evening. The gala was the annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner for the bay area. The speakers were outstanding. The food, and camaderie was equally enjoyable. This shall be one of my most memorable events of the year.
Where to begin? Mr. Ted Cruz began the evening, by telling us what he stood for as a US Senatorial Candidate. He had previously served as the Solicitor General of Texas. On several occasions, Mr. Cruz has successfully argued cases before the US Supreme Court. This is quite the accomplishment. Ted Cruz gave a very apropo piece of advice for all Americans. Look at each candidate’s accomplishments to date. Don’t be misled by campaign rhetoric with no substantive experience to be seen. The depth of experience by Mr. Cruz more than qualifies him for the job of the US Senate. The challenge will be that there are so many highly qualified, strong conservatives competing for the job.
Herman Cain, was a delight, as always. Mr. Cain has formed an exploratory commmittee and is considering a run for President of the United States. His experience and competence are well known in many circles. Herman Cain is an author, speaker, radio talk show host, and former CEO in business. He speaks from the heart, and has a gift for “connecting” to the audience. More than that, he reflects the positive attitude of Americans that have worked hard and achieved the American Dream.
It never crossed his mind to run for President, until he experienced this administration’s lack of leadership. He is not a professional politician. His background includes being a CEO faced with turning a company around, when it was near bankruptcy. Pillsbury employed Mr. Cain. Because he was good at his job, they asked him to take on the task of the Godfather Pizza Division. It was common knowledge the division was near the end, due to fiscal issues. Mr. Cain’s leadership and hard choices put the division in the black, improved morale, and made a profit. He understands fiscal responsibility at all levels.
The personal story he shared of the birth of his granddaughter was moving. This is why he wants to run for President. He has been married for 40 years, has two adult children, and three grandchildren. All people should have the ability to chase whatever their personal American dream, whatever it may be. America is an exceptional place. Of that, Mr. Cain was absolutely certain. It is up to us to maintain that exceptionalism for all future generations.
He gave a brochure with his positions on the various issues. The information is in depth and will be covered in my upcoming review of potential Presidential candidates. Trust me when I say, he included more information and insights on current challenges facing our government, than the majority of the candidates! The most important thing to me personally, was a statement in the booklet that reflects his personal beliefs and ideals. Too many times, we have seen politicians having no moral foundation, that are similar to a rudderless boat. They go nowhere.
The final statement in his information booklet: We are free because “In God Is our Trust”
Thanks to the Bay Area Republicans for a fine evening. You can find out more about their group here: http://www.barw.org/
There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.

After the dust settled on the passing of the Healthcare Reform Bill and the Reconciliation Bill, Americans find they are left with more confusion. While Democrats were preening over the latest victory, Republicans were left with choices of how to handle the latest debacle by the Progressive Party.
The American public is alarmed. The government has passed a bill putting the US government between patient and Doctor. At a time when America’s deficit is experiencing exponential growth, a bill was passed with a pricetag in excess of 2 Trillion Dollars. The United States owes money to other countries. Our country is overextended on credit. Basic accounting rules are the same throughout the world. When there is too much debt, the borrower will go bankrupt. The progressives have pursued their political agenda at all costs, to the absolute detriment of the American people. At a time when unemployment numbers are soaring, more taxes and hardships had been placed squarely on the shoulders of the middle class.
There have been heated debates on whether to repeal the entire bill at the appropriate time or only parts of it. Having read dozens of these commentaries myself, it still wasn’t clear what the optimum approach would be to this problem. I decided to solicit an opinion from a trusted source in Texas.
I contacted Senator John Cornyn for his opinion of what needs to be done about this new Healthcare Reform law. This Texas Senator has consistently been a valued source not only Texans but for the American people on all things constitutional. As a judge in Texas, prior to his Senate career, he provided leadership and exemplary judicial abilities in the courtroom.
I asked Senator Cornyn what are his thoughts on the Healthcare Reform bill. What is the most fitting way for the Congress to deal with this law?
“Republicans seek not only to repeal this health-care law, but also to replace it with something better. Make no mistake: ‘replace’ does not mean tinkering around the edges of this $2.6 trillion law. ‘Replace’ does not mean saying ‘yes but less’ to another unsustainable entitlement. ‘Replace’ means enacting reforms that will actually lower the costs of health care, which the American people want and expect us to do,” said U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.
What can “we the people” do to ensure the Republicans get the opportunity to help us? For the Republicans to be able to execute their plan, the American public needs to take action. There will need to be a Conservative majority in the Congress and a Republican President in place for their plan to work. Timing is critical and the time is now to get involved in the process. Getting out the vote is critical to getting the country back on track. Talk to your friends and neighbors about this effort. Support conservative candidates. In a time of enormous debt and spending in the country, we are in a position to help future generations of Americans by taking these actions.
A well-instructed people alone can be permanently a free people.

We now have the Senate version of the healthcare bill. In this masterpiece of paperwork, otherwise known as massive evil personified, we find the first semblance of rationing and discrimination toward a large demographic group in the United States.
Today’s standards on breast cancer prevention, have been set by reknown oncologists who based their recommendations on years of exhaustive studies. Currently they say beginning at age 40, women should have annual mammograms to be safe. Doctors worldwide advise their patients to do self-examinations on a regular basis to catch this disease if it occurs between the annual check-ups. The reason for this was based on the rapid spreading of this particular type of cancer.
What do we have in this healthcare bill? The new plan proposed by the Senate outlines their plan for preventative healthcare for women. The document specifically states women beginning at age 50 will receive a mammogram every two years. In addition, they say there is no reason to continue the self-examinations. I was incredulous when a Democratic Senator on the floor of the Senate was justifying all of this based on one new opinion submitted by a study group. Statistics introduced by the Democrats say 1 person out of every 1,904 will get breast cancer before 50. Application of this new statistic applied to millions of women over the age of 40 indicates these are considered the “acceptable” losses by the Democratic party.
In addition, there have been statements by several of the Senators in their speeches, that women really don’t need to continue the self-examination process any more. This has been advocated by the medical profession worldwide for decades due to the rapid growth of this particular type of cancer.
If you have friends, mothers, sisters, daughters, please share this information with them. It is discrimination at best and it is advocating an “acceptable” loss of life for women. Make a note this will be the first outright rationing of healthcare in the United States, and it hasn’t been passed yet. What other medical decisions will the bureaucrats make for the rest of us?
I will close this update with a sobering quote as we continue the investigation into the proposed government healthcare.

Editorial note: All the numbers and facts were obtained from the Census Bureau, Unemployment figures, Medicaid and Medicare information, the CBO letter to the House and the Healthcare Proposal released on October 29, 2009.
Let’s begin with stating the facts we can all agree upon at this time. The most pressing problems with current healthcare systems are as follows:
- Non-coverage of pre-existing conditions
- Some people don’t have coverage
- Can’t afford it
- CHOOSE not to have it and save money
- High premiums
The new plan, will allegedly result in a neutral monetary impact for the government (current admiministration claim). The Congressional Budget Office claims the cost will be close to 1Trillion dollars. Yet with the increased taxes on the people, there will be minimal negative impact to the government deficit. With the increased tax, and medicare and Medicaid cuts, it won’t impact the government. It will most severely impact the middle class. The Medicaid cuts won’t begin to address the fact they are including a larger group of people in the Medicaid program under the new Healthcare plan. The people who work and contribute will be paying exorbitant premium increases to accommodate the many new inclusions in the healthplan.
In a nutshell, here is how the new plan will be paid for by working Americans (numbers from Bureau of Census, Unemployment Department and the Social Services Branches of government respectively) : The premium percentage limit specified will be based on the modified gross adjusted income of the people who are working. If you strive to work hard and reap the rewards of a free enterprise system, this Healthplan will be penalizing you on the reward.
Take a look at the numbers:
- # of 18 and under: 73.9M
- # of unemployed in the country at this writing: 15.1M
- # of working age adults = 191.2M
What do the numbers mean to America with this new health plan?191.200,000 Working age people in this country. – 15.100,000 Unemployed people 176.100,000 Working age people employed – 3,950,357 Working age people on welfare 172,149,643 Working age people who are employed – 46,995,000 Approximately uninsured in the country 125,154,643 Working age people who are employed – 11,900,000 Estimated number of illegals in the country as of March 2009 113,254,643 Approximate total number of gainfully employed people 307,818,616 Total population per census bureau -255 ,143 ,000 # of people covered on insurance in 2008 census 52,675,616 Not insured – 11,900,000 Estimated illegal aliens 40,775,616 People who are legal and uninsured (13.25% of population)
If we look at the number of gainfully employed people (primarily middle class), these numbers and the newly proposed healthcare plan tell a specific story:
- Increase benefits for Medicaid recipients from 57% contribution by the government to 91%
- Poverty level now to be determined by up to 150% of the actual poverty guidelines (Millions more of the population will be able to go on government sponsored Medicaid)
- Employers will be better off financially paying the fine, not offering coverage, and simply have employees take public options
- Parents will be required by law to provide insurance coverage for children up to the age of 27
Whether we include the illegal immigrants or not, the tax burden for the above mentioned items, and to insure non-working people falls squarely on the shoulders of the middle class. There are some slight numerical differences noted in the reports from the various government agencies – but you can see the concept of what is happening here. The primarily middle class working Americans will be paying for everyone. The majority of the companies will opt to pay the fines and the employees will need to go on the public option. This will save the companies money and result in a premium that is 3-4 times higher (conservative estimate) than what a person pays today. This factors in the company is no longer subsidizing the person’s premiums, benefits are improved, and the person must contribute to paying for the non working individuals.
**New plan includes $558 billion in revenues from tax provisions (per CBO)
The changes in revenues include effects on Social Security revenues, which are classified as off-budget. Starting in 2013, nonelderly people with income below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty guidelines would generally be made eligible for Medicaid; the federal government would pay a share of the costs of covering newly eligible enrollees that averaged about 91 percent. (Under current rules, the federal government usually pays about 57 percent, on average, of the costs of Medicaid benefits.) In addition, states would be required to maintain current coverage levels for individuals under Medicaid and some children in CHIP through 2019. Beginning in 2014, states would shift some children in CHIP to Medicaid, but the federal government would continue to provide enhanced reimbursement, which currently averages about 70 percent, to states for providing such benefits. CBO estimates that state spending on Medicaid would increase on net by about $34 billion over the 2010–2019 period as a result of the provisions affecting insurance coverage.
There were many other “addons” that were unnecessary but which directly burden the taxpayers. This is another good example of zero fiscal responsibility in the House at this time. They won’t be paying the bill – we will! For instance the government will judge the geographies of each state to determine cost of living adjustments. An example would be that Texas has a good economy and a much better cost of living than California. The cost of living adjustment means a Californian would pay less and a Texan would pay more to make up the difference. If you believe the country is suffering economically now, just wait until your insurance premiums quadruple to pay for all the extras in the new plan. It doesn’t just “fix” the issues in the healthcare system, there are noticeable “improvements” for the non working people in the country. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a classic redistribution of wealth in the country.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 1 so far )
Senator Chris Dodd (Dem) was first elected in 1980. He will be up for re-election in 2010.
Looking at Healthcare, Senator Dodd has some radical ideas. First he wants to force a government run system on the people. Even worse, he is for the illegal aliens and all their children to be covered by the plan. His theory is it will prevent the American population from catching things from them, and after all – they will pay. In the healthcare plan, and in all the speeches it has been stated the premiums set for individuals and families based on their ability to pay. In other words, the poor would pay very little and be subsidized (so to speak) by the people who are able to pay more. Let’s say you have 50M illegal aliens, how much do you think the rest of working America will have to pay to make up the difference?
What is it that is so difficult for Senator Dodd to understand about the word illegal? He appears reluctant or unwilling at best to address what they are going to do about enforcing the law. This is criminal for a United States Senator to speak of “taking care” of all the millions of illegal aliens at the expense of the people who pay his paycheck.
This is a quote from the Senator: “I’ve got a five-year-old and a two-year-old and one has a strep throat and the other has an infection of adenoids. But it’s important to know what families go through who have young children. I’m a US Senator. I’ve got a wonderful health care program. I want every single American in this country to have as good a health care program as every member of the US Congress. That ought to be something we’re going to stand there and fight for”. Everyone applauds this concept. Isn’t it strange that the Senate will not be participating in this government run program? They will keep their benefits, and we will have something separate. If it is so wonderful, why doesn’t he take it for his family? Why doesn’t he propose the entire Senate be on the plan?
Voted YES on allowing patients to sue HMOs & collect punitive damages.
Vote to provide federal protections, such as access to specialty and emergency room care, and allow patients to sue health insurers in state and federal courts. Economic damages would not be capped, and punitive damages would be capped at $5 million. Editorial Note: This type of “sue mentality” without any caps is what has driven the insurance rates so high. Senator Dodd has contributed to our rates being high, by voting yes on this bill. Lawsuits cost everyone.
Voted NO on an amendment prohibiting minors crossing state lines for abortion
All I can say is the thought of a teenager sneaking across state lines for abortion (probably without parental knowledge) is a horrible thought. How could he possibly justify allowing minors the right to cross state lines for abortions?
Voted NO on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)
How could anyone say a crime had not been committed when an unborn fetus is harmed during the commission of a crime? This is unbelievable!
Remember the hedge fund managers that have caused such turmoil with the market and investors over the last few years?
The Stanford Advocate (paper in his hometown), reported that Senator Dodd, the Senate Banking Committee chairman has stated his reluctance to hike taxes on hedge fund profits. He led in political contributions (when he ran for President), $726,950, from the booming investment sector. The tax code allows hedge fund executives to pay capital gains taxes at 15% instead of paying the personal income tax rate at 35%.” Senator Dodd raised campaign money from these hedgefund managers, and then the legislation which would raise their tax rate got killed afterwards. Does anyone believe this was a coincidence? The hedgefund managers had a huge part in the economic upheaval on Wall Street over the past several years.
Voted NO on Balanced-budget constitutional amendment. (Mar 1997)
Don’t we all want the government to have constraints legally that bind them to doing the right thing and balancing the budget? Shouldn’t a United States Senator that represents America be fiscally responsible? Why would he not vote to have a balanced budget? As Americans, do we have to balance our checkbooks? Can we spend unchecked without any consequences?
Senator Dodd admitted to adding a loophole in the Stimulus package that would allow AIG executives to get bonuses
He admits to adding the loophole so the amendment would pass! Is this kind of “deal making” in the best interest of the country?
See link below:
Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. (May 2006)
How does it feel to have worked all your life in America and have to share your pension with the illegals? This is something Senator Dodd thinks is “ok”.
And as if that weren’t enough, take a look at this: Last year, Congress overwhelmingly passed bipartisan legislation granting immunity to telecommunications companies that have cooperated with federal authorities’ anti-terrorism efforts. Senator Chris Dodd, the extremely vulnerable incumbent Democrat, has re-introduced legislation to open those telecom firms to civil and criminal lawsuits. So we vote to grant immunity to gain help last year on anti-terrorism and now he wants to penalize them for helping us.
This man hasn’t exhibited common sense, or morals. Otherwise how could he possibly stand for the items listed above? There are dozens of other equally bad choices this Senator has made in his career representing the people. Senator Dodd is not serving the American people. It is time for the Senator to go. We the people deserve better.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
